ALSO she gives info on how people can do better as allies. I’m so, SO thankful for the information she gave and if you haven’t seen it yet I highly recommend you check it out. I learn so much from her everyday and the information she gives is amazing.

Also if you want to learn more about social injustice and environmentalism, my favorite people to follow are @wastefreemarie @mikaelaloach @ajabarber and @queerbrownvegan 🌟 (don’t blow up there DM’s with questions. Go their to listen to what they have to say because all 4 of them have changed the way I view the world).

I am a white person learning to be better. I am a white person learning to not be “not racist,” but “antiracist.” I’m not a white person claiming to have the answers, but I can share some resources.

Happy anniversary to my best friend 🤧🤧🤧
-
You make me laugh harder than anyone, your cooking is out of this world, and I’m happy that I found someone that loves California and Spongebob Squarepants just as much as I do. I know we’d be on some crazy road trip right now, but I guess we’ll just throw a party quarantine style instead 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Cleaning the whole apartment today 🤤

A little update on living in a tinyyy space: we basically can’t buy new things because we literally don’t have room for it. And I guess that’s the whole reason why I wanted a small space in general? In my old place, I had room for anything and everything, so I never had to think about what comes in my life and what doesn’t. But now, I have to because our storage space is so small. I’m constantly thinking through everything I own to make sure it’s something I want to hold onto. But it turns out a lot of plants will always make the cut 🤷🏻‍♀️.

I’ve teamed up with @sustainably_vegan @going.zero.waste and @shelbizleee to talk about how our partners reacted to living more ~~~sustainably~

I still remember reading my first environmental book when I was a senior in college and my whole perspective changing. For me, I had no choice but to change my lifestyle for the sake of the planet- I had learned too much and cared too much not to.

I started showing Houston the documentaries I had been watching and relaying info from the books I was reading, and honestly he supported me immediately. He knew that I have always cared about ocean conservation and loved to be outside and that this was my way of caring for the planet.

For people who know Houston, you know he’s a 0 to 100 kind of guy, so trying new things for the planet was like our hobby. 😂

my roommates would be studying for their nursing exams at the kitchen table while me and Houston were gagging by the sink because we made the worst toothpaste alternative of ALL TIME. We made a joke with all of our friends that any time you use a straw, you had to say “Sorry Midnight” to the straw, in honor of the humpback whale, Midnight, that Houston adopted for me from a whale organization for my birthday that year 😂 my family and friends still do it- it’s a thing.

So while changing my lifestyle was intimidating because people think it’s a phase or weird or too much, Houston and I made it a game and it’s basically been a game ever since. If you can’t tell from this caption, we love to have a lot of fun and are best friends, so living sustainably just became another thing we could do together. WHAT A GUY. And our 1st wedding anniversary is next week sooo :’) Don’t forget to check out @going.zero.waste @shelbizleee and @sustainably_vegan ‘s page to see what their partners thought 🌟🌟.

Did you know you can regrow your veggies from your scraps??
-
I’m no pro, but swipe right to see my friend Kathryn from @going.zero.waste making her own salad from regrown food scraps! If you wanna try it out, here’s how I regrow my green onions 🌿
-
After I’ve chopped up my green onion for my dinner, I put the roots and stem in a glass of water in my window sill and it grows FAST. It’s like a game because it’s so fun to watch it grow 😂
-
So it’s something to do in quarantine, it reduces waste, AND saves money. Talk about a win. Have you ever tried this??.

Saw this graphic and I feel like it’s so important to show! I’m not hear to shame any person into choosing plant based milk, but I’m here to give education so we can all know the impact of our choices 🌞
-
“But why make alternatives to regular milk? Turns out, dairy has a high impact on the environment. Raising a cow for milk requires vast land, constant electricity, thousands of gallons of water and grain – and even more water and pesticides are required to grow grain. Moreover, cows create huge amounts of greenhouse gases through their burps and feces (we’re not kidding), which pollute not only the air but waterways, too.

Not all plant milk is perfect. One glass of almond milk, for example, requires more water than a typical shower – still less than a glass of cow’s milk! But almond farming practices like monocropping and heavy pesticide use have shown to be really harmful to bees. While some alternatives have their drawbacks, there are still so many environmental benefits of choosing one of the lower impact options.”
-
Is it hard for you to give up milk? If you’ve already given up milk and drink a plant based alternative, which one is your favorite?
-

I originally dried these oranges and grapefruits out for Christmas ornaments but ended up putting some on this stick?? It’s been up for 6 months now in my home and I love it :-) I love using natural decor so I thought I would share this diy 🌿
-
Put sliced oranges or grapefruits In the oven at 170 degrees for 3 hours. Flip every 30 minutes. Word of advice: DONT turn your over to 230 degrees to speed up the process like I did- I burnt all my first batch in its last 30 minutes of dehydrating :’)))).

“Imagine living a healthier life, one in which you don’t just look better, you feel better. Imagine a life with higher standards. Imagine a life with less clutter, less stuff, fewer distractions. What would it look like?

Imagine your life with less—less stress, less debt, less discontent. What would it feel like? Now imagine your life with more—more time, more contribution, more elation.

Now imagine cultivating your passion until you can’t imagine a day without pursuing it. Imagine creating more than you consume. Imagine giving more than you take. Imagine a consistent commitment to growth. Imagine growing toward your limits and then past your limits and waiving back at your previous limits with a smile.

What you’re imagining is a meaningful life. Not a perfect life, not even an easy life, but a simple one. There will of course still be hardships and pain and times when slipping back to the old passive world is appealing, but you won’t have to, because the real payoff is worth the struggle.” -Joshua Fields Millburn.

Here with my cute cat to raise a question: what’s more important: system change or personal change?
-
I think sometimes my message gets lost on here because I talk about the environment every day and don’t always mention my goal with all of this. I studied marketing in college and while I loved the planet, I never thought making personal choices mattered because system change was bigger than me.
-
But then I took this class called Consumer Behavior. I learned all about how buying behavior (or not buying behavior) effects everything a company does. Companies are spending MILLIONS on market research just to answer one question: what does the consumer want?
That’s when it dawned on me. Yes, legislation is obviously the way for biggest change, but legislation and corporations work on the same team. So I just was star struck in class... what if the consumer wanted more sustainable products? What if consumers showed they hate plastic in the ocean? What if consumers showed they hate plastic clothing?
-
And then I realized the true answer. What’s more important: system change or personal change? I truly think it’s both. System change is bigger, but affecting companies’ bottom line because consumers want products that are better for the planet will absolutely change the world.
-
The Oxford word of the year for 2019 was Climate Change. The conversation is there. The change is happening. so if you’re in a place of privilege and have the money and time to think about your impact on the planet, remember: consumers 👏🏼 hold 👏🏼 the power 👏🏼.
