Connection. Human connection is so important for our emotional and mental well-being, and the physical social isolation is what E has struggled with the most. Last week he asked if we could put together care packages to drop off to his waldorf school friends. I loved the idea and felt like it would a great way for him to feel connected to everyone. We’ve been busy crafting and putting together some Easter packages with beeswax egg candles, wildflower egg seed starters, bird seed feeders and dyed wooden eggs. We’re also including some materials for a craft, homemade play dough and E is writing and drawing notes for everyone. We’ll be dropping them off at his friend’s doorsteps and maybe saying hi to some from a distance. How is everyone doing? We have good days and bad days but we’re surviving and remembering to hold space for all of those feelings. Sending love to everyone! ...
It’s 63°f and sunny here in Boulder, Colorado so I’m opening up the windows and starting my spring cleaning! First up, dusting (which is the worst chore in my opinion), then rearranging my shelves, and finally my favorite chore: sweeping and vacuuming (legit, I do love doing these).
What’s your least favorite and most favorite chore?? 🧹 If you say you love doing the dishes, lets be friends and you can come over and clean mine (after the whole social distancing thing ends, of course). ...
Thought I would give you guys a lil peek at the low waste (vegan and non-tox) products I’m currently using in the shower!
To wash my hair, I use a shampoo and conditioner bar made by my Gma’s friend. It’s the first bar I’ve found that actually foams a lot and cleans my hair really well. Swapping to a shampoo bar is any easy way to avoid plastic packaging and if you keep them dry between uses they last ages! 💁♀️
I cleanse my face with this carrot seed, rose and pink clay bar and also use it on my bod with the konjac sponge (natural loofah) I bought these online from @floraandfaunaau.
I also have a reusable razor, which as you can see it’s been dropped a few times (oops), a lil wonky but still works fine and a great eco-swap!
In the jar is dried coffee grinds which are amazing for exfoliating!! I keep them after we use our French press every now and then.
And the sometimes I pinch eucalyptus branches from the trees at the local park to hang around our shower. The steam releases the oils which can help clear inflammation in the sinuses, plus it smells amazing!🌿
Tell me, what’s your fav low waste shower product?
Ps. It doesn’t always look like this, I may have given it a quick clean for the gram! ...
Happiest when it’s time to wash my hair, who else agrees?! We love to mix’n match our bars- currently using Sunshine Shampoo & Blossom Conditioner. What bar are you using right now? ✨
P.S- 1% of all profits right now is being donated to Sea Legacy for the first week of Earth Month 🙌🏼 ...
Grateful for education and be able to learn and explore topics I am interested in 🧡 Even though my program is not directly focused on environmental studies, I feel that climate change and environmental justice are integral aspects to my studies. I choose to write almost every singe research paper on these topics (also food security and agriculture) because I am able to explore topics from an academic angle and learn about these issues in a contextual sense!
Disclaimer, I do complain as much as the next uni student, but in all honestly I’ve learned so much in the past three years and I know my brain is not full yet!!! ...
Found a bottle of kombucha in the back of the fridge last night, so it’s kombucha popsicles for breakfast 😎. It’s probably the simplest thing to make, so that makes it even better. Just pour kombucha into some popsicle molds and freeze. It’s such a tasty treat... or breakfast.
(And no, I haven’t ran out of food. I’m just over cooking actual meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the 2947382 day in a row😬) ...
Regrow & Reuse! 🌿 Has anyone else been growing their veggie scraps from water?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Making the most of our food is something we are all focusing on a lot more now, and growing our own produce is a great way to lower you food waste, need for food shopping and help save money!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A quick way to grow your own produce, is to start from veggie scraps! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All you need is water and some TLC.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are a few veggies you can try:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 Carrot tops⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 Bok Choy ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Be sure to change the water regularly.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can also plant spring onions once they've grown about 10cm.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Have you tried this at home? ...
I’ve always been a fan of washing my produce. But now more than ever I find it to be essential.
We’re living in a time where people are paranoid about germs and I get it!
We’re washing our hands, sanitizing surfaces, so why not wash the foods we’re going to eat as well?
To do this I just fill my sink with water and add 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar, the juice from one lemon and about 2 teaspoons of baking soda.
It might fizz or bubble up so just let that settle before adding in your produce.
I don’t recommend soaking your fruits and veggies for too long but I do about 5 minutes before I wipe them down with a rag.
Please don’t wash your produce with soap! Fruits and veggies and very porous and will soak in that soap meaning you’ll be consuming soap which can cause an array of gut issues.
Happy washing! ...
#TobytheSCOBY day 8! Not sure if I see much of a difference in size today.. Hubby says it’s gotten a bit bigger since yesterday but I don’t see it. However, I am noticing that the SCOBY appears to be lifting from the liquid, so that’s cool! According to my research, if I leave it undisturbed it *should* be ready by next Tuesday!! 🤞🏻I am just so fascinated with the whole process!I find myself checking on it numerous times throughout the day 🙂 ...
